Garden City Beach is the locals' beach — long stretches of cottage rentals between the Garden City Pier and the inlet at the south end, where pier fishing is the main morning activity and the beach itself is wider and quieter than the busier strip. It's the kind of place where the same cottage gets rented by the same family for the same week every summer, and the pier arcade looks much the same as it did when those families were kids.
Our Tanger Outlets studio is about 20 minutes north on Highway 17, an easy detour for Garden City visitors and full-time residents alike. We see plenty of Garden City Pier regulars — cottage families with daughters celebrating birthdays, longtime renters who finally make the welding appointment they've been talking about, and bachelorette groups who chose Garden City for its laid-back rental vibe over the resort scene.
